How it works?
How local medical literature monitoring works at MS Pharm – from identifying a new journal issue to delivering safety reports to the customer.
Journal tracking by local coordinators
A local coordinator is dedicated to each country or region. The coordinator analyses locally available journals, manages access to full-text articles and performs weekly checks to identify newly published issues. Once a new issue is identified or a hard copy is delivered, the information is recorded in our system, eDrug.
Literature review and ICSR data extraction
A local reviewer then starts the analysis with priority articles, such as case studies or articles from clinical practice. The reviewer first identifies pharmacotherapy information: substances, brand names, treatment regimens or drug class groups. If any of these appear, the reviewer looks for safety-relevant information connected with the pharmacotherapy. If both triggers are met, the article is indexed in eDrug and the following information is extracted: patient details such as age, gender or other identifiers; pharmacotherapy details including substances, brand names, dosage, formulation and route of administration; relevant PV terms; country of occurrence or the first author's affiliation; the author's attribution statement to the reported PV terms; and the time frame of the reported event.
Safety reports and reconciliation reports
The whole indexation process has to be finished within 24 hours of identifying an article containing safety-relevant information. eDrug then automatically generates and dispatches safety reports to customers within seconds. Apart from safety reports delivered on an ad hoc basis, we provide customers with regular reconciliation reports on a weekly or monthly basis.
